Rapid emissions cuts needed to ‘minimise’ peak global warming at 1.8C, UN warns

Avoiding 1.5 C of warming above pre-industrial levels is now impossible, and a new pathway to limit peak warming and then bring temperatures back down will be needed, according to an annual UN report on global climate action.

UN Environment Programme set out how the world could minimise the magnitude and duration of exceeding the threshold and try to return to below 1.5C as soon as possible.
