The Metropolitan Museum of Art is cancelling its planned exhibit honouring British designer John Galliano, which had led to severe backlash in the Jewish community and beyond because of the designer's past antisemitic and racist statements.

Donors, politicians and Jewish leaders questioned the Met’s decision to honor Galliano, a fashion designer who was found guilty of a hate crime for his anti-Semitic outbursts.

The event has been set for May 2026, but growing concern over his past remarks, including an antisemitic rant, led to the controversial fashion designer pulling out of the planned event.
