Western Europe records hottest June and July on record

Europe’s fifth heat wave of the summer is set to peak Thursday, the latest in a string of extreme weather events that have strained health systems and energy networks across the region.

With temperatures set to soar as high as 109 degrees Fahrenheit (43 Celsius) this week, Europeans and tourists say that summer in Europe has lost its appeal.

The latest heat wave is the fifth to batter European countries since May as scientists warn that the continent is warming faster than any other.
