Bangladesh to elect new president on August 20 after Mohammed Shahabuddin's resignation

Nomination papers will be accepted at the office of the Chief Election Commissioner on August 13. The scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on August 16. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is August 18

In line with the Constitution, the parliament members elect the president, but the Election Commission conducts the procedure to elect the head of state.

Under Bangladesh's Constitution, members of parliament elect the president, while the Election Commission conducts the electoral process. The election became due after Mohammed Shahabuddin resigned as president on July 24, citing health complications.
